Scenic hikes & fjords in Southern Norway

About

In August 2023 Fini and I embarked on a 12 day road-trip to Southern Norway. We left in Berlin in the evening hours on August 2, 2023. After spending a night in Hamburg, we left early in the morning to reach the ferry in Hirtshals, Denmark. After a few hours, we happily arrived in Kristiansand and kept driving the way up to Stavanger - our first destination.

The next days we explored the city and of course tent camped out on the famous Preikestolen (Pulpit Rock) which has a 604m (1,981 ft) straight drop. After a short night in the tent we got up early to be rewarded with a beautiful sunrise.

We continued north towards Røldal, where we spent some days due to huge amounts of rain. According to news, during our stay there was the most precipitation in the area in the last 25 years.

On August 10 we started our next big hike towards Trolltunga (Troll tongue) near to the city of Odda. It was a pretty tough hike and we still had clouds and rain during the ascent. But the next morning we had a fantastic sunrise with blue skies. The next days we also hiked up the famous Buarbreen glacier and finished by continuing further north to Aurland where we spent the last days of our trip. There, we can definitely recommend the scenic ferry trip from Flåm to Gudvangen.
