Ukraine
From Kyiv to the ruins of Chernobyl
About
In September 2021, Matthias and I decided to visit Ukraine for one week, focusing on exploring Kyiv and the area of Chernobyl and Pripyat.
First, we spent five days in the beautiful and lively city of Kyiv with its mixture of modern and historic buildings from the Soviet era. Kyiv offers a wide variety of traditional, national food and drink, people are very outgoing and the city has great vibes. For me, it kind of felt like Berlin's little brother.
As one of my personal highlights, we were able to spend two more days on a guided tour through the Chernobyl Exclusion Zone which is about a 2.5 hour drive north of Kyiv where one of the biggest nuclear accidents happened on 26 April 1986.
We had a great time in Ukraine and met really nice people. I will definitely come back as soon as possible!
